CES with TechPodcasts

Yesterday I completed my travel and hotel itinerary for the Consumer Electronics Show January 8th through the 11th in Las Vegas NV. No, I won’t be gambling on anything but getting new contacts and making tons of content for Geekazine, Dorkazine and the TechPodcasts CES channel.

I will be landing in Vegas at 11 AM PST Jan 6th and heading out on Jan 12th at 6:30 AM. I can now get a CES schedule going. Still looking for sponsors, so check out the page on Geekazine.

Luck be a Jeffy tonight!

How do I save on Napkins if I can’t get them out

Don’t you hate it when you go to grab a napkin and the holder is stuffed which makes it difficult to take a napkin out? You end up taking out 10-12 napkins just get the one. You don’t feel right putting it back, so you take it with you and then throw away 8-9 unused napkins.

Yes, I could leave it on the table. It doesn’t make a difference though – someone else will just either throw it on the floor or pick it up and throw them away unused anyway.

Maybe someone should invent a better napkin holder that allows only one at a time. And not the “Toilet paper” approach because that gets me into an entirely new rant.

A little Wordpressin

There is a lot I need to learn about this program, but when I catch a break on something, I feel oh so good. Case in point – I had a couple sites that had issues with Permalinks. A Permalink is where it changes the way the links look. For instance, this site has an “About” link on top. The permalink (in the address bar) used to say something like ?cat=2. Now it says /about/.

There is a file called .htaccess. It’s a file that helps with permissions on a site. Long story short – this file needs certain code in it to allow the permalinks to resolve /about/. In very laymans terms, it’s converting French to English.

So now my sites are working the way I want them to. Cross another item off the list…

CES – 16 days away

Well, there is a little more than 2 weeks away for Las Vegas and I still don’t have a game plan. Still not even sure how I’m getting there. I will be there no matter what. I just wish it wasn’t so hard to get people to see the same vision.

All in all, I at least need to solidify travel plans by next week. Hotel – well let’s hope it doesn’t snow again. Let’s also hope there’s no “Fannysmackers” like the CSI episode has. I don’t know if getting my head kicked in by Kevin Federline is the lowest point I can get to.

Still, I will not let the others down. By hook or by snook, I’ll be there. It’s just a question of what will happen after that…

Shovel Your Mailbox

We got a lot of snow this last weekend and some more will be coming this week. Shoveling is a back-breaking job that comes with the snow, but we have to do it, right?

Well, when you do have to Shovel, don’t forget about those who bring you Holiday cards, checks, ebay items and such. If you have a curb-standing mailbox, take another 5 minutes to clear out the snow around the box.

If we get another 100+ inches of snow, the mailbox will be pretty set in and the postal worker will have to get out of their vehicles to put mail in your box. It might be a slight annoyance, but if he/she has to do that to 200-300 houses in a day, it will definitely slow down the mail delivery.

It only takes a couple more minutes to do and helps so many people out. So don’t forget to clear a path for your mail carrier.

Man it’s Warm

A lot of snow, below freezing temperatures can cause for questionable conditions. I started my car about 20 minutes ago and it almost didn’t want to do so. The battery is good and the fluids are acceptable, it was just cold.

My heater works pretty well, but even with about 10 minutes of warming up, it didn’t seem to want to heat up. It eventually did. By the way. Leather is COLD!

Anywho, everyone that is in this Arctic blast, be safe. This is usually where we get a story or two of finding someone who died after they collapsed in a snowbank. Let’s not see that happen.

First Blog

This is the first blog of the “Jeffrey Powers Bloggins”. I decided to put up this blog simply because there are things I’d like to talk about that don’t fall under the other sites. It’s more of a hodgepodge than anything.

It’s also a KISS site – Keep it Simple Stupid. Nothing exorbitant about this blog. Some posts might be 140 words. Some might be pages.

Hope you enjoy the Bloggins and feel free to comment. Just remember – I do have the spam filters on….
